Who is a medical coder?
A medical coder converts physicians’ reports to medical codes. Also known as a clinical coding officer, diagnostic officer etc, a medical coder analyses the clinical statements and physicians’ reports and assigns standard medical codes. In other words, a medical coder is a translator. This universal code system is required by insurance companies as it gives the accurate details it needs.
The medical coder is responsible for assigning correct medical codes for proper billing of insurance companies. Codes are assigned to the whole process from diagnosis to treatment.
